5 Inspirational Daytrip Destinations from Tokyo
Tokyo offers many fun places for Indonesian tourists, both for taking photos and shopping. If you have enough days, remember to travel out of Tokyo but return one day (daytrip). With just a 1-2 hour trip, we can change the view from a busy and congested city to a calm mountain or ski resort.
There are several recommended daytrip destinations if you want to get away from Tokyo for a moment.
1. Hakone / Kawaguchiko
Although it is recommended to stay 1 night, visiting Hakone and Kawaguchiko can be done as a daytrip, as long as you start early in the morning (7am) and return late at night (8-9am). We can see Mount Fuji from the Hakone or Kawaguchiko side.
Take the Odakyu Train from Shinjuku if you want to go to Hakone. With the Hakone Free Pass, we will enjoy the Shinjuku - Hakone return train journey, then ride a unique train up the mountains around Hakone, and include a Gondola and Pirate Ship ride.
2. Yokohama
A city that is relatively close, because it is almost attached to Tokyo, Yokohama is worth visiting without needing to stay overnight.
There are several tourist attractions here:
Instant Cup Noodle Museum
The place is similar to the one in Ikeda (near Osaka), offering the story behind the invention of instant noodles. You also have the opportunity to make instant noodles with your own choice of toppings.
Yokohama Cosmo World
Ramen Museum, this is like several types of ramen in Japan collected into one place. We just have to come here, sample a small bown for each ramen with various flavors of brooth (soup).
To go to Yokohama, you just need to take the JR Train from Tokyo Station (pay using an IC Card such as Pasmo or Suica), a journey of around 30 minutes ¥480. The tourist attractions mentioned above are all walkable from Minato Mirai Station (change trains at Yokohama Station).
3. Nikko
Nikko should really need to stay for 1 day, but are you ready to lug your return suitcase for 1 day? So, if you want to condense Nikko, you can visit it on a day trip too.
You can visit
Toshogu Shrine and World Heritage complex
Shinkyo Bridge
Lake Chuzenji
Kegon Waterfall
Akechidaira Ropeway
Edo Wonderland, buy tickets here.
To get to Nikko, I recommend buying a Nikko All Area Pass, for 4,600 yen, includes round trip Tobu trains from Asakusa Sky Tree Station in Tokyo and buses in Nikko.
Meanwhile, if you have an active JR Pass, you can take the Shinkansen train from Tokyo to JR Utsunomiya station (53 minutes), then connect to the Nikko line to JR Nikko station (another 44 minutes). But you have to buy a Tobu Bus Pass for transportation while in Nikko.
4. Yuzawa Niigata
Gala Yuzawa is famous as a ski resort that has its own Shinkansen station. Yes, with 70 minutes using the Joetsu Shinkansen from Tokyo Station, we immediately encountered snow which is almost not found in Tokyo. Yuzawa City is only busy in winter, namely around the second week of December to the beginning of May.
You can ride a gondola to see views of mountains covered in snow, play tobogganing, and even ski/snowboarding in the areas around Yuzawa, Naeba, and Kagura Mountain.
5. Karuizawa
If shopping is your goal, we can go to Karuizawa to shop for branded goods. Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza is a very large area and many fashion outlets open here offering quite deep discounts so it's cheaper. Somewhat similar to Mitsui Outlet Park, but it is managed by the Prince group which is famous for its ski resorts.
If you come in winter, you can also ski or just play in the snow here.
Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo, and get off at Karuizawa Station, Outlet Shopping greets you right next to the train station. To get to the ski resort, take the free shuttle bus (5-10 minute journey).
